Letters, Diamonds, and Miracles: Courtney’s Journey in Jewelry

From: Bothell, WA.

For Courtney, her first Maya Brenner necklace wasn’t just a beautiful piece; it was the beginning of a beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking, journey with our brand. In August 2021, she received a white gold Pave ‘A’ Necklace to celebrate the birth of her son, Aaron. The initial held double meaning, representing both her newborn and her husband, Andrew—a dainty but powerful tribute to her precious boys, wrapped around her neck. But what started as a joyful keepsake soon became a quiet source of strength in ways she never could have predicted.

Six months into motherhood, Courtney faced an unimaginable challenge: a thyroid cancer diagnosis. It was a time of great fear and uncertainty, but also of fierce resilience.

"...I underwent a full thyroidectomy and neck dissection on the left side, removing all of my lymph nodes on that side, in March 2022. It was discovered that I had 3 cancerous nodules in my thyroid and then 9 of the 35 lymph nodes had cancer in them. It was an incredibly difficult time, but with the support of my family, friends, and extra baby snuggles I was on my way to recovery..." Courtney shares.

Her first Mother’s Day arrived in the middle of it all, and with it, a surprise from her husband—the Diamond Arc Layering Necklace. The necklace features nine radiant diamonds, one for each lymph node affected. A delicate, shimmering reminder of the fight she faced and the healing she was working toward.

From that point, as some cancer cells continued to be aggressive, Courtney underwent radioactive iodine treatment. Then came another waiting game. A year of wondering what the future held for their growing family. And finally, in July 2024, a miracle: her daughter, Olivia, was born. A tiny new life, full of hope. A new letter, ‘O,’ added to her letter necklace. A pave cross, too—a testament to faith and endurance.

Each piece in Courtney’s MB collection signifies so much meaning. It’s a marker of a moment, a milestone, a reminder that even in life's hardest seasons, light finds a way through. Her jewelry tells a story of love, strength and hope—one that she wears every day, close to her heart.
