Stephanie’s Story: Love, Loss and the Necklace That Carries Both

From: Moorestown, NJ.

Some jewelry is simply about style. And then there’s the pieces that go deeper—like Stephanie’s necklace, which quietly carries a whole piece of her heart.

Back in October 2020, Stephanie and her husband went through something no parent ever imagines: they lost their baby girl at 37 weeks pregnant. They already had a little boy at home—almost 2 years old—and while they were surrounded by love and support, they found themselves consumed by sadness and loss.

“It was an awful time,” Stephanie told us. “It hit both of us hard, but it was especially tough on me.”

One of the gestures that brought her a sense of comfort came from her three closest college friends. They sent her a Maya Brenner necklace—simple, yet deeply thoughtful. It featured a “W” for her son’s name, and a pink tourmaline to honor the baby girl they lost far too soon. While no gift could take away the weight of her grief, knowing her friends were thinking of her—and finding a way to show up in such a meaningful way—lifted Stephanie’s spirits during an otherwise heartbreaking time.

Since then, life has grown around the grief. Stephanie and her husband have welcomed two more children—a boy and, most recently, a baby girl. Her necklace has grown with her, too. It now holds three initials—W, H, and Z—and that same Pink Tourmaline, shining right there where it’s always been.

“I don’t think a day has gone by where I haven’t worn my necklace,” she said. “Even though I never got to know our little October girl, wearing it every day makes me feel like she’s still with me. It’s a small tribute, but it means so much.”

There’s something powerful about wearing those letters and charms close to your heart—literally. They become tiny anchors, helping you carry the weight of joy, heartbreak, milestones, and everything in between. We’re deeply honored that so many of our customers choose our jewelry to hold onto memories and keep loved ones close—especially those taken far too soon.

In addition to being a loving mom to three young ones, Stephanie is the founder of DJANGO (djangobrand.com) a USA small business specializing in modern, durable dog accessories and apparel. She’s also a devoted dog mom to her adorable dachshund (and first child), Django.
