A few days after Father’s Day, we’re thinking about the dads whose love stays with us long after they’re gone.

Shelby has worn her Maya Brenner Letter Necklace since 2020, but its meaning began during one of the hardest chapters of her life. After her dad passed away, she chose his initial, G, along with her sister’s birthstone, as a way to keep the family that shaped her close.

Her dad had been a single father, raising Shelby and her sister with love, patience, kindness, and compassion. In Shelby’s words, he was “the most exceptional father.”

The necklace started as a tribute to him, but also to the family that made her who she is. The letter G became more than an initial. It became a reminder of the person who raised her, encouraged her, and shaped the way she moves through the world.

Over time, the meaning of Shelby’s necklace has grown with her.

Last year, she married the love of her life and added his initial to her necklace through our Add-A-Letter Boutique, a way to keep building onto the piece she already loved. What began as a necklace rooted in memory has become a reflection of love continuing forward. This year, Shelby and her husband are expecting their first baby, and she already looks forward to adding another letter for their new little one.
