Honoring One, Awaiting Another: Haley’s Necklace

From: Forest City, IA.

Haley wears her Maya Brenner letter necklace with two letters resting side by side. At first glance, it is simple and understated. But like so many personalized pieces, the meaning it holds runs deep.

The first letter on Haley’s necklace is an E for Eli.

Eli was born on October 31, 2024. He was stillborn. After his birth, Haley received the necklace as a gift from her best friend. What began as a gesture of love soon became something much more. The necklace became a way to carry Eli with her, to honor his life, and to share his story when others ask about the letter she wears close to her heart.

“It helps me remember him,” Haley shared, “and share his story with others when they ask about my necklace.”

Over time, her necklace evolved, just as her story did.

Recently, Haley added a second letter to her necklace. A W for Wells.

At the time of her story submission, Haley was seven months pregnant, with Wells expected to arrive in mid January. As she prepares to welcome her second baby, her necklace now holds both of her children. One who lives in her heart. One is now in her arms.

“I’m so thankful for my necklace to hold both of my babies so close to my heart,” she told us.

Personalized jewelry often marks joyful moments. Birthdays. Anniversaries. New beginnings. But sometimes, it becomes something else entirely. A quiet source of comfort. A way to keep going. A reminder that love does not disappear, even when loss is present.

Haley said it best herself.

“Thank you, Maya Brenner, for creating something that doesn’t just tell my story. It helps me survive it.”

We are deeply honored to be trusted with stories like Haley’s. Stories of love, loss, resilience, and hope, all carried in the smallest of details.
